The Rory Donnelly Family Assistance Award

Eligibility Criteria: The student candidate/nominee must be a single mother, a currently enrolled NEIU student and in good academic standing (minimum GPA 3.00/4.00). Students may nominate themselves and also provide a nomination/recommendation from a NEIU faculty or staff member. The nomination must outline why the candidate is deserving of the award. The nomination must include a statement as to why the award would lessen financial burdens of child care placed on the candidate.

Other Information: Child care includes, care for infants, pre-school, after school care for children under the age of 12. This award will not cover costs for private school.

Background & Purpose: The Rory Donnelly Family Assistance Award honors the lasting legacy of Dr. Rory Donnelly, Professor Emerita of Linguistics at Northeastern Illinois University. Dr. Donnelly served the NEIU community from 1977 to 2006, specializing in the areas of Developmental Writing and English as a Second Language Writing, as well as Teaching English as a Second Language. Dr. Donnelly was a devoted faculty member and demonstrated true commitment to her students. Through her will, she established the Rory Donnelly Family Assistance Award to provide financial assistance to a single mother who is a student at NEIU, who also must pay for child care for her child or children.
